If your child has misaligned teeth and may require orthodontic treatment, then read on to see if this option is right for you. What Are Orthodontic Treatments? To correct misaligned teeth, there are a few solutions to choose from and our dental team can help you find the one that is right for each patient. From traditional metal braces to clear braces, our team will examine each patient's mouth to determine which option will provide optimal results. Metal BracesThe treatment option that most people are familiar with is traditional metal braces. In this treatment option, metal braces are attached to the teeth via cemented bonds that are sure to stay in place. The treatment works by constantly applying pressure to your teeth to slowly move them where they need to be over time. Usually, this will take a few years and will require occasional trips to the dentist to see if the braces need tightening. You also have the option to pick the colors of the bonded material, so the child can pick whichever color they want for a more fun and customizable experience. Invisible BracesInvisible braces are clear trays that are customized to go over your teeth. The invisible braces will slowly adjust your teeth over time. If one set of invisible braces has adjusted the teeth as much as it can, then a new set will be created that can apply even more pressure. It is a gradual process, as the first set of braces cannot apply too much pressure on the teeth while still fitting on top of them. The tray has to just move the teeth slightly, which will require new sets of trays at certain time intervals to pick up where the old set left off. One advantage to this option is that the braces are removable, so you can take them off when eating or drinking, or if you just want to remove them for a special occasion. Partial Orthodontic TreatmentIf only some of the teeth need realignment, then our dentists may recommend only partial orthodontic treatment. This can involve the use of braces on only the affected teeth and will not necessarily cover the entire mouth. Because this is a more limited treatment option, it can be a cheaper and less time-consuming option. ConclusionMisaligned teeth are not only a cosmetic issue, they can cause severe impacts on oral health if it is not treated as early as possible. Overbites and underbites can be expensive to correct and can have lasting effects on a child's development.
